New Indie Record Label Pairs Good Vibes and Fine Wines
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA. Harvest Road Music is making it easy to choose the right tunes to accompany that favorite glass of pinot noir or sauvignon blanc. The new San Luis Obispo indie record label has just released its debut CD, “Uncorked – The Sound of the Wine Country,” with planned distribution through local wineries and wine outlets.
A fusion of Nu Jazz with an edge, peppered with soulful vocals, make up the majority of the genre for the label. “This is not your Dad’s jazz, nor a collection of put-you-to-sleep elevator tunes. This is a whole new movement of marrying music with life experiences, namely wine enjoyment,” said Harvest Road CEO Randy Rigby, a successful record producer and guitarist from Denver.
Rigby, who now splits his time between Colorado and San Luis Obispo, toured the Central Coast in the 1970s with the Bob Bitchen Band, performing regularly at the former Cigar Factory, now Novo, and other popular local nightspots.
A music industry veteran, Rigby has created, produced and marketed over 200 albums throughout his career, with albums that have generated over $100 million in revenues in conjunction with companies such as Sony Music, Time/Warner, Vineyard Music Group and many others.
The Harvest Road Music label features lesser known, but extremely talented artists, and Rigby takes great pride in introducing their music to connoisseurs who enjoy good music and fine wine. “We want to represent these artists and share their gifts with a broader audience,” he said.
With wineries becoming increasingly popular gathering places for cultural expression and venues for live entertainment, choosing the right music is vital to creating a pleasing atmosphere, said Harvest Road’s VP of Marketing Diane Helbert, “Our goal is to create mood music for your next dinner party, wine tasting event, or anytime you seek a soothing but soulful atmosphere. We want to become known as “The Sound of the Wine Country.”
